Thank you for the invitation to the Richfield Class of 1963 50 Year Reunion. I am one of those "missing classmates" that did not graduate from Richfield High School but went to school ther long enough to be a Spartan (Kindergarden through 9th grade). My parents moved our family to Edina in the summer of 1960 and I graduated from Edina in 1963.
Following high school, I attended the University of Minnesota, graduating in 1968 with a Bachelor of Arts. While at the "U", I was a fraternity brother of Andy Streed's husband Tom.
Following graduation from the 'U", I was drafted into the Army and spent 19 months in the Army, 12 and one half in Vietnam as a combat medic.
When I returned from Vietnam, I got into the Human Resource field and retired after 39 years with 3 different manufacturning companies in Owatonna, and then, Mankato.
My wife Bonne (also retired) and I have lived on Madison Lake for 27 years. We have 2 grown daughters but no grand children.

After graduation I attended the U of M and the MN School of Business with an emphasis on Accounting.
In 1966 I traveled to Stuttgart, Germany to where my future husband was stationed in the Army. Tom and I were married there a few months later and we spent the next year and a half living and traveling in and around Germany.
After returning to MN, I worked at the U of M. A few years later I decided to stay home with our daughter and son. We moved around some during this time but ended up in Farmington, MN on a hobby farm with our horses, dogs and cats. After our daughter and son were both in college we accepted a job transfer to AZ where we have lived since 1988. -- I want you to know I have not missed the cold weather and snow at all!
I retired in 2011 from Arizona State University after working in the AZ university system for 23 years. I have been married for 47 years to the same guy I married in Germany. We are enjoying our retirement by traveling in our travel trailer during the summer months to get out of the AZ heat. We also love traveling to Europe with friends from college.
We have four wonderful grandsons ranging in age from 21 to 5. I enjoy playing golf, going to college football and basketball games, volunteering at church and going to the nursing homes with my two Certified Therapy Dogs - it is amazing what positive effect dogs have on the elderly.
I feel very fortunate to live the life I have been given.

I hope everyone comes to celebrate 50 years! I don't think we should stop at 50. I'm married, live in Edina, my husband is with the US Department of Defense. He is not retired so we spend winters in fabulous Minnesota. I have one son, Scott, age 48, married and lives in Wayzata. He owns several restaurants in the aream Hudson, WI and Rochester. I have two granddaughters. Caitlin is 27 and a nurse and she just made me a great grandmother in January. Brittany is 22, a hairdresser and also works for my son.
I still have my 90 year old mom. She lives in a nursing home and my rescue Maltese is a regular visitor too. I celebrated 32 years of sobriety in February and active in helping women who want to recover from alcoholism. I am hoping to see everyone at the reunion!

I decided to summarize the years since we all graduated a little bit differently – I still like to go a bit against the flow.
Family - Married in 67’ to Sharyn Weglein – class of 64’. Our priority is spending time with our son and two daughters and their families – 8 fantastic grandkids. We started having a Camp Cousins two years ago with our grandkids where we enjoy doing camp activities at our home in Prior Lake. I wind up sleeping in the tent with them.
Jobs - One of my first jobs was weird – I burnt money. This was tough, since at that time we lived pay check to paycheck. My other jobs were more normal – I got paid for watching people work and computer systems operate. I just had to report to management what I saw. As a retiree, I work more around the house with no pay.
Sports - I tried golf, but it took too much time. I tried wind surfing but only in low winds. I like fishing, I can still waterski on two skis, and I love downhill skiing. I am a volunteer instructor with the Courage Center Alpine Ski program for people with disabilities. I have learned more from my students than I have ever taught them. I am still falling off my unicycle.
Theater – how many of you remember our trip to the Guthrie-do you remember what was playing? My wife and I enjoy going to the plays and I like Shakespeare – one of my favorites I call Tricky Dick. We especially like musical theater –did any of you see War Horse? It was fantastic.
Travel – We love traveling to cold places where I can ski and warm climates in the winter to relax and enjoy the ocean and beaches. We also enjoy visiting Europe where we will be heading shortly after the reunion.
Grads I See – We stay in contact with Paul Becken and his wife Sue Green, Bob Ronning and his wife Karin (64’class), John Frisby, Wayne Swenson (at House of Prayer) and Gene Hokenson our neighbor.
Worst High School Memory – Chemistry Class Mr. Brown’s comment to me in front of the class as he was less than happy with my work: Dennis do you want to be Chemical Engineer or A Music Teacher? Last fall I joined a Barbershop Choir the Commodores (practices at House of Prayer) and I just love singing with them. Maybe I should have been a Music Teacher but then I would not had the chance to burn money.
If you enjoyed this summary or have questions about it, let’s visit at the reunion.

After graduation, I got a masters degree in social work from the University of Minnesota. I worked as a medical social worker at HCMC, working for several years with kidney dialysis and transplant patients. I retired four years ago, after being a hospice social worker for HealthPartners for another several years.
I was married to Peter Albrecht for twenty-five years. We adopted two beautiful babies from Bogota, Colombia. Ana is now 27 and Libby is 25.
Even before retirement, I had been lucky to do a lot of traveling. I have especially loved Cuba, where I have spent several weeks a year for the past eight years, immersed in the culture and learning Spanish. I have enjoyed serving on several boards. Retirement also gives me more time to play with my five year old granddaughter, Elena.
I am looking forward to seeing everyone and hearing all the stories.
Dianne Maurer (Erickson/Eberhard)
special Education Teacher Married 4I have been married to Jim Eberhard since 1993 and living in Fairmont, MN. We love to dance and take our motor home on the road to many music fests throughout the summer. Jim is retired but periodically works part time in lending.
Yes, I am still working - full time - as a special education teacher in Truman, MN (10 miles from Fairmont) and absolutely love it! Since I am half deaf and half blind, we get along great! I cannot imagine retirement yet but may get there someday!!!
The reunion is so exciting and I cannot wait to attend!

Greetings to all RHS 1963 classmates. After graduationg from the U of M, I taught public school in the Twin Cities. Husband Jim (from Iowa!) and I raised two daughters. Now we enjoy two granddaughters. We love to travel and play some golf. Thinking back on our time in the Richfield Schools, I believe we were offered a wonderful education with great teachers. We were well prepared, so lucky, and many wonderful memories.
